Protein Packaging Matters: Standup Bags vs. Plastic Canisters

When we developed new Udder Bliss Grass Fed Whey Protein, we knew we were on to something special. The ultra-filteration process used to create this protein helped us keep out all the things your body doesn't need. That means there's no extra stuff to worry about like antibiotics, pesticides, chemicals or hormones. Udder Bliss is an all-natural, grass fed whey protein delivering only pure protein for your body to use as fuel.

2 reasons why you should rethink how you store your protein

So how do we protect something so pure? Sure, we could use an ordinary plastic protein canister, but we think this new protein is anything but ordinary. It needs a package worthy of its weight. We canned the canister and swapped it for a sustainable standup bag that really does a stand-up job. This new packaging provides benefits just as great as the high-quality protein inside it; but one of the main reasons we use it is because of its sustainability. We'll explain:

Standup Bags Offer Sustainability

Using a flat bottom standup bag for protein powder packaging is more environmentally-friendly than a plastic canister. While both options are recyclable, that’s pretty much where the similarities between bags versus canisters end. Flat bottom standup pouches, while made of multiple film layers, use up to 15% less material than other plastic bag styles and even less than that required to produce plastic canisters.

Less material means that the pouches weigh less and, therefore, require less fuel per unit to ship. There’s also less waste after disposal because a flat bottom standup bag takes up about as much space in a landfill as an empty shipping envelope.

Standup Bags Offer More Convenience

The material used for standup bags is more flexible than a large plastic canister and can be stored almost anywhere. They’re also very light weight making them more convenient for getting protein on the go. Plastic containers are rigid and large and require the same amount of space whether it’s full or half full of protein.
