You Are What You Eat: Bodybuilding Diet

Without proper nutrition (bodybuilding diet) and supplementation, your efforts in the gym will be wasted. I have heard this many times over the last 20 years. In the gym, you are tearing your body down and with the right balance of protein, carbs, fats and supplements you are re-building and repairing the damage you inflicted upon yourself. If you do not eat small protein meals or drink protein shakes, then you will probably lose muscle. That means you are going backwards!
Early in my bodybuilding career while I was going to college (many moons ago) I learned this lesson. I was busting my butt in the gym 5-6 days a week but my gains were slow. At that time, the magazines loved to call us “hard gainers”. I hated that term, as I felt that just meant I wasn’t doing everything I should be doing to grow! I quickly learned that I just needed to eat more of the right foods, drinks shakes or have a protein bar at the right times. Voila! Gains started coming quite easily I must say.
I remember getting asked all the time, “Dude what are you on? You are growing incredibly fast!”
My reply was“Met-RX, this stuff rocks!” Then they asked if this was some sort of a new steroid but I just told them it was food in a packet!
For those of you old enough to remember, I also used a protein powder called Hot Stuff which tasted like dried gasoline, so it must have worked, right?
For you youngsters, those were a couple of the first meal replacement supplements out in the market. I took two shakes a day and had a bar between classes so I could get in all my protein. Sure I ate food for the other three meals but switched from greasy burgers and fries to healthier chicken and ricebowls or turkey sandwiches. I also switched from sodas to water and plain ice tea and stopped eating candy bars and junk food.
Man, looking back I’m not sure how I ever ate those dry stale bars or drank those crappy tasting shakes. Bars and shakes these days taste like candy bars or a treat, so you are lucky!
Basically, change your food, change your body, so quit reading this and go EAT!
