Cleansing and the Athlete

Morning Greens

The stress placed on your body during the training and racing season can be very damaging. An increase in the production of free radicals and the over consumption of processed foods, (even energy bars and fuels), can lead to muscle and cell damage, injuries, digestive problems, poor performance, and a lack of energy.

Quality nutrition is just as essential as the investment made in hours (upon hours) of training and top-notch equipment. Every athlete can also benefit from a periodic cleanse. By cleansing your system of impurities and toxins, your body can better absorb vital nutrients, enabling it to perform to its maximum potential. Restore your body, give it a rest from heavy foods and get energized!

There are many ways to cleanse but if you are in training, it’s best to eat a combination of whole foods (not just a juice fast) including complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, nuts). We also add a fresh “green” drink every day including whatever is in the fridge…spinach, kale, parsley, apple, carrots, pineapple and/or cucumber. The addition of an herbal cleanse can also be very therapeutic. There are many healthy and healing “cleansing” supplements on the market that are gentle and formulated with safe ingredients like probiotics, herbs and fiber

Spring is a great time to do some “spring cleaning”…inside and out! Get revitalized and set some new PRs!
