On the road again

On the road again

, by Cheri Rifkin, 1 min reading time

This is the first entry in my new blog, “Moms Are Fit”. I’m excited to share my life and all the things that I am passionate about. This year I am once again training for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. It is a 50 mile race from 6,520 feet in elevation from our town of Durango, Colorado which is nestled in the Rockies to the high mountain town of Silverton, CO.

I want to be at my absolute peak on race day Memorial Day weekend and lower my time from last year by 20 minutes. With 50 miles of road, 6,700 feet of climbing over two mountain passes and fast descents, I’ve got my work cut out for me to accomplish my goal.

Recently, I started reading the “Time-Crunched Cyclist” by Chris Carmichael. That title certainly describes me as I have a wonderful job, instruct spin classes and outside rides for the Iron Horse and skiing for a group of local ladies that ski everything from bumps to powder in the trees. I need to train smarter, harder, avoid injury, speed recovery and stay healthy!

After many years of working in the sports nutrition/vitamin and supplement industry, and personal usage of vitamin and supplements, I know that not all supplements are created equal. Now it’s more important to me than ever before to be diligent about checking ingredients due to my increased training regimen. In coming weeks, I’ll share tips I’ve learned for training, nutrition, supplementation, my favorite recipes and stories along the way.

On the road again…
